Welcome to the Community Stewardship Program at Humber Bay Butterfly Habitat
Volunteers Needed
My name is Peg Thoen and I’m the volunteer team leader for the Butterfly Habitat. I live in Palace Place and have been participating in the program since 2003, when the Habitat was opened. Our team meets every Wednesday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Butterfly Habitat (in Humber Bay Shores Park along Marine Parade Drive). We start May 6th, and keep working until around mid-September. Stewardship activities can include maintaining native vegetation by weeding invasive, non-native plant species, mulching, planting, collecting litter, photo monitoring, and monitoring water quality and pollinators.
We would love to see more Humber Bay Shores residents join us. If you are interested in joining the Humber Bay Butterfly Habitat team of the Community Stewardship Program please contact greentoronto@toronto.ca.
The Community Stewardship Program involves volunteers in on-going maintenance and monitoring activities at different naturalization sites throughout the City. Team leaders like me help lead the teams, using equipment and work plans provided by the City.
We will provide you with any training you need on site — all equipment will be provided, including gloves.
If you are just curious about the ‘habitat’ and want to come down and visit, please join us any Wednesday between 6 pm and 8 pm.
I’ll keep you up to date with my weekly emails about what to expect each week. We hope you’ll join us!
